Chris Smith, from San Francisco State University, is the co-Lead Editor for Genomics.
Christopher D. Smith did his undergraduate work in Virology at the University of Rochester . His research interests include using
comparative genomics approaches to study the details of genes and repeats in
fruitfly and other insect genomes. He also studies genetic and epigenetic
factors influencing behaviors in social insects such as ants and bees. He
received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from UCSF in 2000 and currently teaches
a Chromatin Structure course at the graduate level, and Bioinformatics
and Genetics for undergraduate students at San
Francisco State University. Chris is a visiting faculty member in the Life
Scienes division of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, where he contributes to the
Drosophila HeterochromatinGenome Project. He is also involved in the Genomics
Education Partnership, a national effort to harness the talents of undergraduate
students to annotate the genomes of Drosophilids and other
species.
