Sustainable fashion

Fashion is one of the most profitable industries in the world. It employs millions of people and is a key source of income for women worldwide, thus contributing to reduce gender inequalities, particularly in developing countries. The industry is, however, also one of the biggest polluters, being responsible for 2-8% of the global greenhouse gas emissions. From fibre production and handling, to textile coloration, and waste management, the fashion industry can severely impact ecosystems, often with serious consequences to the health of exposed populations. Despite the commitment from the industry to address these issues and promote fashion sustainability, most initiatives have fallen short of the desired results.

This Collection welcomes submissions of original research on fashion sustainability, including studies on its impact on health and the environment, as well as ecologically friendly alternatives to the current production methods, materials, and dyes.
