Zeinab Ramashani, Chenguang Zhang et al. developed a microfluidic device that allows for quantification of extracellular vesicle (EV) microRNA from plasma. The platform does not require EV extraction, so it is able to process samples in as little as 30 minutes and requires much smaller volumes of sample than competing platforms.

This protocol describes the proximity ligation assay for RNA (PLAYR). PLAYR can be used to simultaneously detect at least 27 RNA transcripts using flow or mass cytometry and can be combined with protein detection via conventional antibody staining.
