Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death mechanism that is emerging as a target for cancer therapy. Here, the authors find that lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 modulates ferroptosis resistance by controlling phospholipid metabolism.

Adipocytes have high levels of many components of the complement system. These components are involved in antimicrobial activities, but also have the potential to regulate the maintenance and turn-over of adipocytes under normal and pathophysiological conditions through positive and negative regulation of the membrane attack complex.

In this study, Nakarmua et al. identify a novel ferroptosis suppressor 1 (FSP1) inhibitor that promotes FSP1 relocalization through phase separation, priming ferroptosis and ultimately impairing tumour growth.
