Cardiovascular models are experimental systems that recreate aspects of human cardiovascular development, function or disease. They can include experimental, genetic or transgenic systems in animals such as the rat, mouse, pig, rabbit and zebrafish.

Physiologic biomechanics enhance reproducible contractile development in a stem cell derived cardiac muscle platform

Investigations of human cardiac disease involving human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes are limited by the disorganized presentation of biomechanical cues resulting in cell immaturity. Here the authors develop a platform of micron-scale 2D cardiac muscle bundles to precisely deliver physiologic cues, improving reproducibility and throughput.

Inulin regulates endothelial function: a prebiotic smoking gun?

A new study shows that the prebiotic inulin improves vascular function in an animal model of cardiovascular disease. A key mechanism for how dietary gut microbiota modulation regulates host physiology through the activities of host–microbiota co-metabolic signalling via bile acids and glucagon-like peptide 1 is also explained.
