Bob Sheehy, completed his BS in Biology at Eastern Oregon State College (1983) after which he spent four years in the gene mapping laboratory of Ellen Magenis. He received his PhD in Genetics from the University of Arizona (1995) where he studied the genetics of cooperatively breeding Harris' Hawks. He received the Dean Amadon award for significant contributions to the understanding of the systematics and distribution of raptors for his work on the phylogenetics of the family Accipitridae. He has been on the faculty at Radford University since 1996, teaching genetics, evolutionary biology, ornithology and bioinfomatics. He has developed a number of online genetic simulation programs to help students understand genetic and evolutionary processes. He is the biology advisor to the Radford University Forensics Science Institute and is currently involved with developing the DNA testing lab. Bob's current research examines the relationship between life history and gene flow in lungless salamanders (family Plethodontidae). Bob is an avid beekeeper and founder of the Radford Vulture Festival.
