NATURE EDUCATION PRIVACY NOTICE

Nature America, Inc., trading as "Nature Education" ("Nature") respects your concerns about privacy and values its relationship with you. This Privacy Notice (the "Notice") describes:

  • the types of information we collect from subscribers, customers, contacts and visitors to the portion of our website accessed under www.nature.com/scitable
  • how we may use that information;
  • with whom we may share that information; and
  • the measures we take to protect the security of that information.

Our Notices also tells you how you may contact us to update your information, remove your name from our mailing lists or get answer to questions you may have about our privacy practices.

Information We Collect and How We Use It

Personal Information We Collect About You

Nature Education is an online service to help science faculty and students teach and learn science concepts and connect with other science faculty and students. The personal information you choose to provide on this site is used to help you describe yourself to other users, and for the additional purposes described below. We list below the methods by which you may provide the information and the types of information you may submit. We also tell you how we may use the information.

Contact Us

If you communicate with our Customer Services department through the "Contact Us" link on our website or by post or telephone, we may ask you for information such as your email address, your location, and whether you are a registered user or a website visitor. You may also choose to provide additional personal information, for example, in the form of an attachment or by post. We may hold these details in our customer services query database and use such personal information to respond to your questions and comments. We may use such personal information to evaluate the quality of our products and services.

Website visitors may choose to register with our website in order to gain access to various website features such as personal pages, group pages, blogs, and product purchase. If you choose to register with our website, we may ask you to provide information such as your full name, email address, general field(s) of interest and employment details. We will use such personal information to provide you with the services and/or products you select. For example, we will use your email address to notify you of information relating to your account, or when another user in your network sends you a message. Information you provide at registration or in your "Profile" section will also be used to customize your experience on the site. For example, when you log in to your account, we may show you content related to your areas of interest. We may also use such personal information to contact you about other services, products and/or content which we think may be of interest to you.

Creating a Personal Profile

Once a registered user, you may provide additional information in the Profile section describing your skills, professional experiences, and educational objectives. Providing additional information beyond what is required at registration is entirely optional, but enables you to better identify yourself and find new opportunities in the Nature Education system.

Commenting and Forums

As a default, all comments you post on Scitable will be attributed to you and your profile. All comments posted on blogs, news articles, and discussion forums will be publicly visible. You can, however, choose to remain anonymous on any given reply in the forums.

Information about Your Contacts/Groups

In order to invite others to connect with you directly in Nature Education, you will enter their names and email addresses. This information will be used by Nature Education to send your invitation including a message that you write. The names and email addresses of people that you invite will be used only to send your invitation and reminders. In a group profile, the description of the group, a list of its members and their publications, and its public events will be visible to all users.

You can form a "Private" group on Scitable, which will be visible to only the members of that group. Members can join "Private" groups only by invitation.

Other Website Features

We offer website visitors various features for their information and enjoyment, which we may change from time to time. We may ask you to submit certain personal information so we can provide you with these features.

Other Uses of Information

We may use the personal information you provide on our website for internal purposes, such as for website administration, data analytics and compliance purposes.

Passive Collection of Information

We collect certain aggregate and information when you visit our website. Such aggregate information does not relate to a single, identifiable visitor. It tells us information such as how many users visited our website and which pages were accessed. By collecting this information, we learn how to best tailor our website to our visitors. We generally collect this information either through "cookie" technology as described below (including web beacons), or through "log files". Both we and others (such as our service providers) may collect personal information about our visitors' online activities over time and across third-party websites. Our website is not designed to respond to "do not track" signals from browsers.

Log Files

When you visit the Nature Education web site we automatically receive the URL of the site from which you came and the site to which you are going when you leave Nature Education. We also receive the Internet protocol (IP) address of your computer (or the proxy server you use to access the World Wide Web), your computer operating system and type of web browser you are using, as well as the name of your ISP. This information is used to analyze overall trends to help us improve the Nature Education service.

The public profile feature on Scitable allows users to decide what categories of profile information displays to other Scitable users anyone else browsing the internet. Third party search engines only see what the user selects for display.

We reserve the right to transfer any information we have about you in the event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets. Should such a sale or transfer occur, we will use reasonable efforts to direct the transferee to use information you have provided through our website(s) in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Notice.
