Vegetables Good...Vegetables Bad !!!

Aa Aa Aa

Despite that the whole world never stoped talking about preventive medicine. Every now and then, we hear of a new health challenge; an outbreak here or an epidemic there. For so long, people have run to fresh vegetables and fruits to avoid diseases and to benefit from the natural sources of vitamins. So in 2011, came the Escherichia Coli (E Coli) infections to attack the people who have been playing it safe with food borne diseases.

These are the evil spirits of vegetables who came to haunt down the earth. We should all abandon vegetables and seek refuge in hard boiled and fried food....and then comes the evil laugh hahahahaha...:)

Naturally, this is not true !!!

Only in the areas infested with E Coli, cooked food is the better choice "for now". Obviously, this does not mean that the principles of preventive medicine have changed....definitely NOT. But, just for the time being and until the source of E Coli infection is eradicated, the rules are reversed. After that, we can safely return to "fresh vegetables and fruits as the healthiest food choice and the best preventive medication".

Prevention is better than cure; a slogan that has been known and repeated for so long.

The concept of preventive medicine has been implemented since the ancient times. Some of these ancient remedies are still in use nowadays, of course, not in the same shape or make but the concept is still the same. I will just talk about a couple of examples, first is the ancient Egyptian cosmetics. The ancient Egyptian cosmetology had been made not only for beauty reasons but also for medicinal purposes as well. Among these cosmetics are the sun blocks; certain types of animal oils were used by the ancient Egyptians to prevent sun burns. Also, Kuhl were used as eye remedy as well.

Another ancient Egyptian medicinal means that are still in use nowadays are the "condoms". The historic Egyptian linen condom is the oldest known condom. Later on, the Egyptians used the bladders of animals to make condoms. Condoms were used to prevent infections and/or for contraception.

When you read about these ancient remedies, you will find out that the concept is still the same. If you looked up the world's ancient history, you will definitely find more interesting ideas for disease prevention. And as I said the concept behind preventive medicine is not new, however, the means by which this prevention is achieved changes from time to time.

You can also come to South Africa and attend the " Preventive Medicine Through the Life Course" Conference that will be held in Pretoria, South Africa and learn more about preventive medicine;
