What is Palgrave Communications?
Palgrave Communications, published by Palgrave Macmillan, is a fully open-access, online journal publishing peer-reviewed academic research across the full spectrum of the humanities and social sciences. The journal publishes research Articles, Reviews and short Comments, and features thematic article collections (‘special issues’).
Why did you launch Palgrave Communications?
From research with our author community, we believed that there is a need for a high-quality open access publication in the social sciences and humanities. Palgrave Communications combines Palgrave Macmillan's deep knowledge of the humanities and social sciences with the tools, technology and digital publishing know-how of SpringerNature. Together we blend high quality and innovation, offering authors an exciting publishing vehicle for their research. With a particular focus on interdisciplinary research, we aim to foster interaction, creativity and reflection within and between the disciplines the journal encompasses. The journal will help researchers to pioneer new discoveries across the humanities, social science and business. Read more about the benefits of publishing in Palgrave Communications.
What fields does Palgrave Communications cover?
The journal editors are dedicated to publishing high-quality original scholarship. Actively welcomed for submission is research on agenda-setting issues, grand societal challenges and emerging areas of thinking, irrespective of the field of study. This also includes research that reflects on, or seeks to inform, policymaking of all types.
Palgrave Communications additionally welcomes interdisciplinary research that makes an explicit and valuable contribution to the advancement of the humanities and/or social sciences.
We have established an eminent Editorial Board representing a broad range of disciplines from across the humanities, social sciences and business studies, and will continue to expand this as the journal grows.
Is Palgrave Communications peer-reviewed?
Yes, the journal has a rigorous double-blind peer review policy. Articles will be judged on both their technical soundness and the wider importance of an article to its field or in wider interdisciplinary terms. In general, to be acceptable, a paper should represent an advance in understanding likely to influence thinking in the field.
What is the editorial structure and process?
The Editorial Board comprises distinguished academics and researchers from a wide spectrum of fields within the humanities, social sciences and business studies. The Editorial Board includes a panel of Associate Editors who have responsibility for overseeing the peer review of manuscripts and recommending final decisions following assessment. To save authors and referees time, only those papers that seem most likely to meet our editorial criteria will be sent for formal review. Those papers judged to be of insufficient interest to the field, or otherwise inappropriate, are rejected promptly without external formal review. Read more in our Guide for Authors. The Managing Editor communicates editorial decisions to authors, and is responsible for guiding the development, policies, standards and editorial scope of the journal.
Where is Palgrave Communications indexed?
Details of indexing can be found on our open research site. Applications for inclusion in other relevant major indexing and abstracting services are also planned.
Does Palgrave Communications have an impact factor?
We will be seeking an impact factor as early as possible, working in line with the Journal Citation Reports' normal procedures.
Is Palgrave Communications open access?
Yes, Palgrave Communications is open access, which means that all published articles are freely available for all to read and redistribute. To publish in Palgrave Communications, an article-processing charge (APC) must be paid by the author or their funding agency or institution.
