About the Editors

Chief Editor: Katrina Ray, PhD ORCID

(currently on maternity leave)

Katrina studied for a BSc in Microbiology at the University of Manchester. Next, as part of the EIMID programme, she worked at the Institut Pasteur (Philippe Sansonetti group), Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology (Arturo Zychlinsky group) and Karolinska Institutet (Birgitta Henriques–Normark group) before carrying out her PhD studying Shigella flexneri at Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof. Christoph Tang. She joined the clinical Nature Reviews in 2010 as a Cross-journal Associate Editor, before moving to Nature Reviews Rheumatology and Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology as Associate Editor in 2011, becoming Senior Editor in 2012. She was Acting Chief Editor for Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology September 2012–August 2013 and became Chief Editor in August 2014.

Katrina has a special interest in gastroenterology, microbiota, infection, viral hepatitis and neurogastroenterology.

Locum Chief Editor: Ian Fyfe, PhD ORCID

Ian obtained his PhD at the University of Cambridge, UK, where he studied the assembly of membrane protein complexes involved in membrane transport, supervised by Professor Mike Edwardson. Prior to this, he was awarded a first-class degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and gained research experience in several molecular biology laboratories. He has been involved in science communication since 2008 and has written for a number of science society, news and consumer publications. He joined Nature Reviews in August 2014 as Assistant Editor for Nature Reviews Neurology and Nature Reviews Nephrology, and was appointed Associate Editor at Nature Reviews Neurology in August 2015. He became Senior Editor in November 2018, and acted as Chief Editor from October to December 2020. Ian joined Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology as Locum Chief Editor in September 2022.

Senior Editor: Jordan Hindson ORCID

Jordan studied for a BSc in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Warwick. He then joined the Nature Reviews team as a Journal Assistant in 2016, before becoming a Proofreader in 2017 and then a Senior Proofreader in 2018. During this time, Jordan received an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London. In September 2019, Jordan joined Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology as an Associate Editor. He was promoted to Senior Editor in September 2021.

Jordan has a special interest in hepatology and translational medicine.

Associate Editor: Eleni Kotsiliti, PhD ORCID

Elena studied for a BSc and a MSc in Biology and Molecular biology, respectively, at the University of Patras. Next, she carried out her PhD studying the immunology of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) at the Technical University of Munich, Helmholtz Center, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Mathias Heikenwälder. She continued with her NASH research as a postdoc at the German Cancer Center in Heidelberg in the Heikenwälder lab. In August 2021, she joined Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology as an Associate Editor. 

Elena has a special interest in hepatology, immunology, NASH, hepatic fibrosis and the gut-liver axis.

Elena is based in Berlin, Germany.
