Droplet interface bilayers are created by contacting nanoliter aqueous droplets in an oil solution in the presence of phospholipids. This image was created by manipulating a white-light microscopy image of a bilayer formed between an aqueous droplet and an agarose hydrogel. Taken from the protocol by Leptihn et al. Cover design by Jamel Wooten.
