Although this study shows that early postnatal phencyclidine treatment primarily affects the expression of parvalbumin-containing interneurons in young adulthood, PCP (10 mg/kg) also causes apoptotic nuclear fragmentation (red TUNEL staining) of a few calretinin-positive interneurons (green) in the dorsal subiculum, one of which is shown in the lower right portion of this photograph. Neurons are stained blue using an antibody against the neuron specific marker, NeuN. Courtesy of Drs. Wang, Yang, Xia, and Johnson of the University of Texas Medical Branch.
