Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Type I interferon

Environmental and/or endogenous triggers induce pDCs from SLE patients to produce IFN-α, which activates myeloid DCs, and triggers the expansion and differentiation of autoreactive CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, and possibly mature B cells, into autoreactive effectors.
