About the Editors
Like the other Nature titles, Nature Chemistry has no external editorial board. Instead, all editorial decisions are made by a dedicated team of professional editors, with relevant research and editorial backgrounds.

ief Editor: Gavin Armstrong, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Having worked on Nature Chemistry since April 2008, first as an associate and then senior editor, Gavin became Chief Editor in the summer of 2022. He graduated from the University of Leeds with an MChem in 2002, and remained there to undertake a PhD in nonlinear chemical dynamics. His research focused on pattern formation and travelling waves in excitable chemical systems. Before joining Nature Chemistry, Gavin worked for the Royal Society of Chemistry as an assistant editor of Soft Matter and the Journal of Materials Chemistry. Gavin is based in the London office. g.armstrong@nature.com
S
enior Editor: Katherine Geogheghan, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Katherine received her MChem from the University of Huddersfield in 2014, after which she undertook a PhD at the University of Edinburgh in synthetic methodology and mechanistic elucidation, studying palladium catalysed cross-coupling reactions. After finishing her studies, Katherine joined the Nature Chemistry team in March 2018 and is based in the London office. katherine.geogheghan@nature.com
Senior Editor: Kathryn Ashe, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Kathryn completed her MSci in Natural Sciences (Organic Chemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology) at University College London in 2014. She then remained at UCL to carry out a PhD in prebiotic chemistry, investigating synthetic routes to nucleotides and amino acids. Kathryn joined the Nature Chemistry team in July 2018 and is based in the London office. kathryn.ashe@nature.com
Senior Editor: Adam Weingarten, PhD, Springer Nature, USA ORCID
Adam joined the Nature Chemistry team in January 2023. He received his PhD in 2015 from Northwestern University for his work on supramolecular, chromophore-based materials for solar-to-fuel energy conversion. For his postdoctoral work at Israel’s Ben Gurion University of the Negev, he investigated the water-splitting catalysis and photochemistry of inorganic polyoxoanions. Prior to joining Nature Chemistry, Adam was a Senior Editor at Nature Communications, where he handled manuscripts involving electrocatalytic and photocatalytic applications. Adam is based in the New York office. adam.weingarten@us.nature.com
Senior Editor: Stacey Paiva, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Stacey studied biochemistry at Queen’s University, Canada, followed by a PhD in chemistry at the University of Toronto investigating ubiquitin-like protein modifications. After a postdoc working on targeted protein degradation at Yale, she started her editorial career in a locum role at Nature Reviews Drug Discovery in 2019. Stacey subsequently worked at Nature Reviews Methods Primers, Nature Reviews Chemistry and Nature Chemical Biology before joining Nature Chemistry in February 2023. Stacey is based in the London office. stacey-lynn.paiva@nature.com
Senior Editor: Joan Serrano-Plana, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany ORCID
Joan joined Nature Chemistry in October 2023. He obtained his PhD in chemistry from the University of Girona, investigating bioinspired metal complexes for oxygen activation and hydrocarbon oxidation. During that period, he was also a visiting student at the University of Minnesota. Joan continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Basel, where he focused on developing iron-based artificial metalloenzymes. Prior to joining Nature Chemistry, he was an editor at Nature Communications, where he handled manuscripts in the field of molecular inorganic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry. Joan is based in the Heidelberg office. joan.serranoplana@nature.com
Consulting Senior Editor: Peter Seavill, PhD, Springer Nature, UK ORCID
Peter obtained his MSci degree in Chemistry from University College London in 2016, before carrying out a PhD in the interdisciplinary topic of electro-organic synthesis at the same institution. Upon completion of his studies, Peter worked at the Royal Society of Chemistry as a publishing editor on the journal, Energy & Environmental Science. He then joined the editorial team of Nature Synthesis in June 2021 and became a Consulting Editor at Nature Chemistry in September 2023. Peter is based in the London office. peter.seavill@nature.com
Consulting Associate Editor: Alexandra Groves, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Alex obtained her MChem degree from the University of York in 2017, before moving to University College London to undertake a PhD in materials chemistry, studying hydrothermal synthesis of electrocatalysts for the hydrogen economy. Upon completion of her PhD, Alex moved into the chemicals industry, researching carbon capture and utilisation before joining the editorial team of Nature Synthesis in March 2022. She became a Consulting Editor at Nature Chemistry in September 2023. Alex is based in the London Office. alexandra.groves@nature.com
