The Roncarolo Laboratory has an opening for a highly motivated, self-driven postdoctoral fellow with a background in immunology. The successful candidate will join the Division of Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, California, USA.
We have an ongoing translational research project that investigates the basic mechanisms of action and potential clinical use of the engineered type 1 regulatory T cells (Tr1) that we call CD4LV-IL-10 or briefly LV-10. LV-10 cells are generated by lentiviral transduction of human CD4+ T cells with an IL10 gene. LV-10 have a unique combination of immunosuppressive and cytotoxic functions that make them suitable to: (1) control excessive inflammation, such as in the context of the graft-vs-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and (2) lyse myeloid cells, such as malignant myeloid cells in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In addition, we are continuously exploring the basic biology of Tr1 cells, and using LV-10 together with ex vivo circulating Tr1 and alloantigen-specific Tr1 to uncover the molecular frameworks that govern the Tr1 identity, differentiation and function.
This project provides a rare opportunity to investigate human immunology in health and disease and develop a cell and gene therapy, with particular focus on T cell reprogramming, regulatory T cell functions, mechanisms of cytotoxic cell killing, cancer resistance and evasion mechanisms, and development of LV-10 as an innovative cell therapy in the clinic.
Required Qualifications: The post-doctoral fellow candidate is required to have obtained an MD, or have a PhD or MD/PhD in cell and molecular biology or immunology.
Preferred qualifications: experience in immunology, human immunology, mammalian cell culture, multi-color flow cytometry and basic concepts of translational medicine. The candidate should have demonstrated self-initiative and motivation, interest in developing collaborations, the ability to work independently, attention to detail, ability to critically interpret data, carefully plan experiments, and present data in writing and in person in clear and effective manner.
