Fermentation Engineer / Scientist

Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

Use your comprehensive knowledge of fermentation to help us develop and produce biochemicals. And make an important contribution to our long-term goal of reducing our society’s environmental impact through the production of novel biochemicals.

Joining us, you will have ample opportunity to make your expertise count and immerse yourself in lab development work as part of fermentation scale-up as well as large-scale production. Take this chance to help shape an up-and-coming company.

Step into an innovative and entrepreneurial work environment
At our office in Copenhagen, you join a newly established biotech company founded by four entrepreneurial spirits. Based on our combined professional expertise, we are building a company which focus on bio-based production of biochemicals that find applications in existing and novel markets.

Having recently ventured into a cooperation with the large chemical producer Zhejiang NHU, we are taking the next step in our growth journey, and we need you to help us take that step as our fermentation expert.

Develop and drive our fermentation platform
As the newest addition to our growing team, you will be taking full responsibility of our fermentation platform. Doing so, you will help build up the fermentation lab, taking charge of further optimizing fermentation conditions for the production of targeted biochemicals.

Actively setting up the automated data management system for the fermentations, you step into a workday where you make your knowledge count. You will work in close collaboration with our strain engineering group, and you will:

- Actively participate in studies involving cell physiology and flux analysis
- Analyze data
- Work with modeling
- Carry out chemical analyses

“A hands-on approach is needed here. Not only will you help building up the lab, you are the one running things and – for now – lifting the task of thoroughly characterizing the strains by fermentation and optimizing conditions, bridging the strain development with product applications. You are the one that makes sure things are working as they should.”
– Christian Bille Jendresen, Director and Co-founder of Cysbio.

Be the face of Cysbio
This position also offers you the opportunity to become an integral part of our external communication. Doing so, you will meet with external partners, and here, you get to present our work, contributing with your scientific knowledge and insights.

“Gaining a very large area of responsibility, you will have a chance to truly make a difference in a growing research team. We will work closely together to create results, but you will be the expert we all look to within this area. In that sense, you will be instrumental in ensuring our continued success.”
– Christian Bille Jendresen.

Experienced fermentation engineer
You have a strong drive for delivering results, and you enjoy working hands-on in the laboratory. Communicating with external partners, you will also need to have good communication skills, and as a true team player, you have a positive attitude toward those around you. Furthermore, we expect you to:
- Have a PhD and preferably a few years of academic or industrial research experience
- Have a documented background in fermentation technologies and microbial physiology studies – if you have hands on experience with whole cell catalysis and downstream processing, it is an advantage
- Have worked with designing experiments and optimizing fermentation conditions
- Be fluent in English in both speech and writing

If you have any questions about the position, please contact Director and Co-founder Christian Bille Jendresen at cbj@cysbio.com.
How to apply?

Please submit a single PDF-file to careers@cysbio.com and include CB19FS in the subject line, or through the form below.

The application should in this particular order contain: your application, resume and diplomas as well as publication list (you may highlight your contributions), list of references and recommendation letters if available.

The application deadline is April 30th, 2019, but applications will be evaluated as they are received.
