A funded PhD position is available at the University of Auckland, in the COSMOS group. The University’s Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences is rated among the top 1% of Clinical and Biomedical teaching and research institutions globally (2018 QS World University Rankings) and the COSMOS group has a proven track record of conducting world-class translational, clinical, and epidemiological research. The project includes a set of studies with a particular focus on the use of magnetic resonance imaging in investigating body composition and pancreas. It is envisaged that the project will result in several publications in top international peer-reviewed journals.


About the Research Group

COSMOS group is hosted at the School of Medicine. Our mission is to bring order to common disorders of the exocrine and endocrine pancreas for the benefit of patients worldwide. We focus on translational, clinical, and epidemiological research at the interfaces between pancreatic diseases, metabolic derangements, nutrition and gut function.


Candidate Requirements

The suitable candidate will have:

• Master degree with First Class Honours in radiology, biomedical engineering, medical physics, or a related field or M.D. (Radiology)

• Grade Point Equivalent of 7.5 or higher

• Experience in structural analysis of magnetic resonance imaging data or experience in computer programming (Matlab, IDL, Python or C++ software)

• Peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals

• Demonstrated capacity to exercise initiative and meet milestones

• Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills

• Commitment to working as part of a team



• NZ$27,900 per annum (tax exempt)

• one-off NZ$3,000 relocation grant
