We are seeking to hire a new Research Leader in Bioinformatics within the department for Biodiversity Informatics and Spatial Analysis. The successful applicant will develop a bioinformatics research programme that helps deliver Kew’s Strategic Scientific Priorities, and will supervise students, raise external funding, develop collaborations, and establish publication a record for excellence in the field.

Bioinformatics is becoming an increasing part of Kew’s scientific mission across all our departments. We are using genomics to characterize our collections, unravel the evolutionary history of interesting plant families, understand how plants and fungi have both beneficial and detrimental effects for human society, and explore the distribution of species and their need for conservation.
We are now seeking to recruit an additional Research Leader, to further build our capacity in this area further the goals of our scientific strategy. We will consider any applicant with an excellent track record, and strong research proposal, in the general area of bioinformatics.
As a research leader the successful candidate will be expected to build and lead their own programme of research and undertake collaborative projects with colleagues within plant health and other teams at Kew as well as other institutes nationally and internationally.
You will be expected to apply for financial support from external competitive research funding calls. If a successful grant application exceeds the duration of the three year fixed term contract advertised here, a contract extension may be offered in accordance with the terms of the grant.
All applicants must also submit a two-page outline of their proposed research, naming suitable funding bodies that they will apply for grants from, and outlining the future impact of their research, alongside their application form.
