Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in HIV-host Interactions to join a Wellcome funded project in Professor Peijun Zhang group based in the Division of Structural Biology at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics.
The project is focused on defining the molecular mechanism by which host factors act on the function of capsid and viral infectivity, by carrying out structural and functional studies of HIV-1 capsid and host factor complexes using cyroEM methods, including cryoEM single particle/helical, electron tomography and cryo-FIB/SEM, combined with mutagenesis and functional assays.
You will manage the project day-to-day, including both design and action of strategies in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, structural studies using cryoEM and other appropriate methods. You will use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment and will act as a source of information and advice to other group members and will act in a co-supervisory role towards graduate students within the research programme. You will carry out collaborative projects with partner research groups and contribute to the preparation of scientific results and the overall development of the programme.
You will have a PhD/DPhil (or in exceptional cases expected to obtain soon) in the structural and functional studies of proteins and protein complexes with a research experience in production and purification of proteins for structure/function studies using mammalian and E. coli expression systems; research experience in cryoEM, and/or X-ray crystallography including both experimental and computational; and with substantial research experience in protein biochemistry and structural biology. You should demonstrate a good publication record, including work at level of first author in a leading referred journal, and have good written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project including assisting the work of junior researchers is also essential.
The position is fixed-term for 3 years and funded by Wellcome.
Please quote ref. 140187 on all correspondence. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 29 April 2019 can be considered.
