DTU Physics invites you to apply for a PhD project.
We are looking for highly motivated and skilled candidates to apply for a number of vacant PhD positions. The subject of your PhD project must be within one of the main research areas of the department:
- Experimental surface physics and catalysis
- Catalysis theory (New strategic activity)
- Computational atomic-scale materials design
- Neutrons and x-rays for materials physics
- Quantum physics and information technology
- Biophysics and fluids
- Plasma physics and fusion energy
- Nanoscale materials and devices (New activity transferred from DTU Nanotech)
The Department of Physics is focusing on research and teaching in physics areas of fundamental interest and with clear application and innovation potentials. We embrace both projects that are curiosity driven and projects that are closely related to grand challenges in society.
We encourage collaboration, for example with the common goal of establishing sustainable energy solutions. We also focus on developing the next generation of functional materials, inducing catalysts and two-dimensional materials, and we are expert users at a number of large-scale research facilities including synchrotrons and neutron sources. We work to develop quantum technology and on harvesting synergy between physics and life-science areas.
We embrace internationally leading research environments at the department and we prioritize strong cross-disciplinary collaborations within DTU, with leading international universities and facilities, and with private companies. DTU Physics has the main responsibility for the Physics and Nanotechnology education and for the introductory physics course for most of DTU’s students.
The position, which involves a limited teaching obligation, includes salary and travel grants covering the three years it takes to obtain a PhD degree at a Danish university. Salary level is approximately 52.500 Euro incl. pension per year.
You should have a master degree in physics or a similar relevant degree with an academic level equivalent to the master degree in engineering. Flexibility, self-discipline and curiosity as well as collaboration and responsibility are basic skills at our department.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programs of DTU – in this case in the Physics, Mathematics and Informatics program. Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years. The starting date is flexible, but can be no later than second half of 2019.
