Salary: Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Assistant and Lab Manager to join Dr Lars Jansen’s lab to independently perform research projects in the area of chromatin and epigenetics in human cell culture. Research projects include, elucidating the mechanisms of centromeric chromatin assembly and inheritance and developing methods to determine the contribution of cis-acting chromatin structure and trans-acting transcription factors in the maintenance of long-term memory following cytokine-mediated gene-activation. You will also act as a lab manager and perform lab managerial tasks that include providing technical and strategic support to students and postdocs during their experimental work.


Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in biochemistry or biological sciences and have specific research skills in mammalian cell culture, construction of transgenic cell lines, microscopy, image analysis as well as single cell fluorescence sorting. You will have previous research experience with the ability to independently manage your own research and administrative activities. A broad skill set in molecular and cellular biology is essential as is having excellent organisation and communication skills, including the ability to write for publication and present research proposals and results.


This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 12 months in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.


The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
