The Hungarian Centre of Excellence for Molecular Medicine (HCEMM) is a game changer organization which catalyzes reforming changes in the research culture and makes an impact in the regional development of Hungarian knowledge regions. HCEMM was created by the union of excellent Hungarian Research Institutions: the University of Szeged, the Semmelweis University and the Biological Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. They were joined by the National Research, Innovation and Development Office representing the Hungarian Government as project coordinator and by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) as an advanced scientific partner. HCEMM is financially supported by the EU Program “H2020-EU.4.a. Teaming of excellent research institutions and low performing RDI regions” under the contract number No. 739593, and co-financed by the Hungarian Government and the Partnering Institutions. Notably, HCEMM is also part of the EMBL partnership program.
Research Strategy of HCEMM
HCEMM focuses on and supports molecular medicine-oriented research activities targeting key, highly prevalent ageing-related non-communicable diseases. The research strategy is based on three thematic pillars (Inflammatory and immune diseases; Cardiovascular and metabolic disease; Cancer and genomic instability) and three cross-cutting horizontal themes (Disease in a dish; Precision medicine and preventions; Units of translational research). Further, high-quality excellent research is most efficiently supported by a matrix of advanced core facilities in the HCEMM. Importantly, the thematic pillars and cross-cutting horizontal themes are highly complementary and synergistic in terms of the underlying concepts, research approaches, and the needs for high-end technologies and core facilities.
The Project Steering Committee of the HCEMM project hereby announces a Call for “HCEMM Research Group Leaders”. The aim of the call to support the scientific activity of internationally excellent principal investigators (PIs) and their research groups within the HCEMM.
We are searching for Groups Leaders to set-up and operate their research groups in the HCEMM. We seek dynamic and interactive individuals with an excellent scientific track record and demonstrated experience and interest in the above thematic areas of molecular medicine.
Applicants may apply in one of the below three research group categories:
- Senior Groups (the PI has > 10-years experience after obtaining the PhD degree)
- Junior Groups (the PI has < 10-years experience after obtaining the PhD degree)
- Translational Groups (independent of the career steps)
HCEMM is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive working conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organization. Female and junior candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will be hosted in the state-of-the-art facilities in the HCEMM nodes operated by the partnering institutions in Szeged or Budapest. An initial contract of 5 years will be offered to the successful candidates; this is foreseen to be extended to a maximum of 9 years, subject to an external, independent, international review. Successful candidates will receive an attractive remuneration package and will by jointly appointed by the HCEMM and the hosting institution. Of further importance, the selected research groups will benefit from all advantages of the Partnership Agreement signed between HCEMM and EMBL.
