A fully funded 3-year postdoctoral position in the field of cancer immunology, gene-editing and cell-based vaccine technology is available from July 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, in the lab of associate professor Martin R. Jakobsen.
The MRJ laboratory consists of 6 postdocs, 3 PhD students and several undergraduate students. The group has years of expertise within the field of innate immunity. Since 2016 the group has focused more on cancer immunology and exploring various therapeutic targets. We study the aspects of how the innate immune system can be modulated in order to attack tumor cells. One of our assets has been the development of a human plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) technology and preclinical therapeutic purposes including cell-based cancer vaccines.
The laboratory techniques range from primary human cell cultures, western blotting, flow cytometry, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing in stem-cells, in vivo mouse cancer models and humanized mice. The group is well funded through large research grants received from various Danish foundations.
For this project we seek a highly qualified and dedicated postdoc that will focus on the therapeutic potential for cell-based cancer vaccines. The project aims to address how well suited pDCs are for antigen presentation, CD8 T cells activation and how pDCs in conjunction with NK cells can induce killing of tumor cells. The candidate will work in close collaboration with other team members, where the overall aim is to explore different areas of the innate immune system for anti-cancer therapeutic properties.
We seek a highly motivated candidate with a solid background in cancer immunology and molecular biology. Knowledge on dendritic cell biology is not a prerequisite but good to have. However, expertise in molecular biology techniques; cell culture and flow cytometry are critical. The candidate is required to have strong skills in English and proven abilities to publish at a high international level with at least two first-author publications. Motivation to work independently and be responsible for the daily management of his/her research project in coordination with other members of the group is expected. The candidate will also be actively involved in the training and co-supervision of other group members and students. Shortlisting will be applied.
