Salary: Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.
We are seeking to appoint two Postdoctoral Research Associates to join the newly established Kornmann Group (www.kornmann.group) to study the molecular mechanism of interorganelle lipid exchange at membrane contact sites. You will study a crucial but poorly understood aspect of cell biology by using combinations of next-gen sequencing-based genomic screening in yeast to identify new factors involved in lipid exchange. This entails leveraging methods for cutting edge yeast genomics screenings that are developed in the lab (see Michel et al.). In addition, the effect of perturbation of lipid exchange will be assessed using mass-spectrometry-based approaches that are also developed in the lab.
You should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject area together with relevant experience and knowledge of cellular biochemistry. You will have a strong background in, or the desire to learn and use, either yeast genomics screening or mass-spectrometry. You will be able to manage your own academic research and associated activities and have previous experience of contributing to publications and presentations. You must be able to work in a team to make new discoveries, present them in various setups, and drive them to publication. Knowledge of a computer programming language such as R, Matlab or python is desirable.
These full-time fixed-term posts are funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 3 years in the first instance and are based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.
The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
