Salary: Grade 6: £28,660 - £34,189 p.a.
Are you an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Assistant with excellent organisational and communication skills? Professor Peter Somogyi is seeking a Research Assistant to provide specialised support to his group's ongoing research efforts. You will have the opportunity to participate in research projects and contribute to the general running of the lab.
You will be responsible for the daily organisation and running of the laboratory in pursuing the scientific goals of the research programme. This will include: assisting the Group Leader and the Research Support Manager in the delivery of the research programme; preparation of laboratory reagents; stock-keeping of laboratory consumables and supplies; assisting in the checking of services, the routine preparation, testing and maintenance of equipment; cleaning/sterilisation of instruments and equipment; assisting in record keeping, database management and laboratory compliance with best practice (eg standard operating procedures and Health and Safety); developing and applying novel histological processing and analysis of brain tissue; performing light and electron microscopic immunohistochemistry of brain tissue; planning, performing and providing documentation of experiments to high standards; collecting and analysing data, drawing conclusions from them and presenting written reports; performing oral presentations of developments and results in regular laboratory meetings; image acquisition, analysis and processing; and providing training for students and visitors in good laboratory practice and histological analysis.
You should be educated to at least BTEC/HND/BSc or equivalent undergraduate degree in an area of biological research and have a track record in laboratory technician work and/or research experience in the field of neuroscience.
The post is funded by the European Research Council and is available on a fixed-term basis until May 2020.
