Staff Scientist (m/w/d)

Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt

Frankfurt am Main, Germany

The Frankfurt Cancer Institute and the Mildred-Scheel-Nachwuchszentrum Frankfurt are jointly recruiting

Staff Scientists (m/w/d) (E13 TV-G-U) to support the FCI core technology platforms.

The Frankfurt Cancer Institute (FCI) is a recently founded LOEWE Center where interdisciplinary teams work together to elucidate molecular mechanisms of tumour pathogenesis and therapy response to develop innovative targeted therapies. Research within FCI programs is substantially dependent on central technology platforms to ensure a smooth and reproducible workflow. Please visit for further information. In parallel, the Mildred-Scheel-Nachwuchszentrum Frankfurt (MSNZ) aims to provide attractive career paths in cancer research. For further information please visit

We are looking for staff scientists with a PhD/MD degree and a proven track record in biomedical sciences. Candidates should have a keen interest in translational cancer research and in providing state-of-the-art technologies to facilitate the development of mechanism-based tumor therapies. Staff Scientists are expected to engage in multidisciplinary teams as part of the FCI core and need to bring good team communication skills. For all positions, a strong expertise in the described technologies and a record of successful projects are required. Contracts are planned for 4 years with the option for extension. Positions are located at Georg-Speyer-Haus or Goethe University’s Niederrad or Riedberg campuses.

Staff Scientist / Postdoc level (f/m) Transgenic Core Facility (FCI_Staff_01)

Tasks include the planning and performing of precise genome editing projects, including genetic strategies, assembly and validation of targeting constructs and CRISPR/Cas9, work with mES cells and mouse embryos. Requirements are a strong expertise in mammalian genome modifications. Willingness to work with murine models is expected.

Staff Scientist / Postdoc level (f/m) Proteomics (FCI_Staff_02)

Tasks include the planning and execution of complex proteomics projects and the establishment of innovative mass spectrometry (MS)-based techniques needed for successful accomplishment of the FCI’s goals. Requirements are a profound expertise in MS-based proteomics and data analysis.

Staff Scientist / Postdoc level (f/m) Chemical Screening Platform (FCI_Staff_03)

Tasks include the development of in vitro assay systems (TR-FRET and other fluorescent assays, DSF, reporter/GFP based assays) and running automated screens on targeted libraries. Requirements include a strong experience in assay development, chemical biology and automated screening systems.

Staff Scientist / Postdoc level (f/m) Cellular and Biochemical Analysis Platform (FCI_Staff_04)

Tasks include establishing cellular functional assays (imaging, functional screens, proliferative assays) and biochemical methods to monitor changes during cancer development and upon-drug treatments in primary cells and tissues. Requirements are a strong expertise in cell biological and biochemical methods.

Staff Scientist / Postdoc level (f/m) Human Organoids (FCI_Staff_05)

Tasks include the coordination of the organoid biobanking activities at the FCI, the development of tumor organoid-based functional assays, characterization by next-generation sequencing and integration of clinical and molecular data. Requirements are a well-documented expertise in primary/3D culture of mammalian cells and a solid background in molecular oncology. Previous experiences in biobanking and/or bioinformatics (genome/transcriptome analysis) are advantageous.

We offer: A competitive salary as well as Education and Training opportunities. Located in Frankfurt am Main the FCI is situated in an open-minded metropolitan region and offers an international working environment, good access to public transportation and road network and a free public transport job-ticket (in 2019) The Goethe-University also runs a day nursery, the ,,Uni-Strolche‘‘. This position is suitable for a full time employment or part-time employment.
