The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK within the statutory framework of various EC Directives and Regulations, and the Veterinary Medicines Regulations.
We have a vacancy for a Higher Scientific Officer based in Addlestone, Surrey. The core work of this post is to assess the human and environmental safety aspects of applications for Marketing Authorisations and Animal Test Certificates for Veterinary Medicinal Products (VMPs) and feed additives.
You must hold a degree or equivalent, directly relevant to the post, in life science subjects, such as toxicology or pharmacology. We will also consider you if you have other life science degrees, but you must demonstrate in your application how these areas of study are relevant to the role, and that you have an equivalent level of overall competence in relevant areas, normally by more substantial experience
Knowledge of UK and European authorisation systems for VMPs and of the animal health and livestock industry is desirable, although full training in these aspects of the work will be given.
