We are looking to recruit a computational biologist to work within the Group of Sean Munro at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) to predict the role of human genes of unknown function using bioinformatics and machine learning techniques.

The position will suit someone who can play a major role in the development of neural network based methods, and associated preparation of training datasets, for predicting gene/protein function using a mixture of large phylogenetic, proteomic and genomic datasets. This role will involve the development of software pipelines to: accumulate and pre-process training data; train and parameterise state-of-the-art deep neural networks; objectively assess the performance of predictions. The position is supported by a collaboration agreement with the Alan Turing Institute and there will be opportunities for interactions with Turing researchers.

You will have PhD in a relevant subject in computational biology or machine learning and significant research experience in the use of genomic, proteomic or phylogenetic data, or in the application of machine learning. You will also have experience of computer programming using scripting or compiled languages in a UNIX/Linux environment.

Further information about the position may be obtained from Dr Sean Munro, email: sean@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org.
