The TB Discovery Group
is looking for a Scientist I to work in the drug discovery group. The
successful candidate will be responsible for projects utilizing high content
screens to probe host-pathogen interactions.  The project will utilize
sophisticated high throughput microscopy to identify compounds that potentiate
intracellular bacterial killing, as well as determine mode of action of novel


  • Work under Biosafety Level 3 conditions
    with Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Conduct a research and development project
    using high content screens
  • Conduct research to understand mode of
    action of novel anti-mycobacterial compounds
  • Design and implement research plans
  • Troubleshoot and solve experimental and
    technical problems
  • Run a wide range of microbiological and
    cellular assays
  • Writing standard protocols and validation
    data packages
  • Liaising with external collaborators
  • Write manuscripts and assist with grant
  • Contribute freely to the team research
    environment in a manner conducive to the success of the research project
    as a whole
  • Establishing and using high throughput
    methods to monitor intracellular replication of mycobacteria and track
  • Genetic manipulation and culture of
  • Characterization and selection of
    fluorescent labels for development
  • Developing robust and reproducible high
    content assays using microscopy
  • Implementation of assays to determine key
    pathways and mode of action of compounds
  • Data analysis and parameter selection for
  • Oversee quality control and data integrity


  • Graduate in relevant biological science

  • PhD in relevant area

  • Minimum of 2 years post-doctoral experience

  • Great lab bench skills, able to maintain
    good lab records and generate scientific hypotheses

  • Good communication skills and able to
    organize and prioritize own work

  • Computer literacy, including word
    processing, Excel and literature searches

  • Scientific publication record with the
    proven ability to effectively write scientific papers

  • Good sense of ethics and the ability to
    maintain confidentiality

  • Able to work effectively with little
    supervision but also a great collaborator

  • Proven record of working well with other
    teams and outside agencies

  • A multi-tasker who is eager to learn new

  • Able to work at Biosafety level 3

Desirable skills

  • Expertise in

  • Expertise in
    high throughput assay development

  • Expertise in microbial genetics and/or
    cellular assays

  • Experience working with mycobacteria or
    other pathogens

  • Biosafety level 3 (BSL3) experience
