Description of the project:
Enzymatic Synthesis and Characterization of Designer Lipids
Enzymes offer opportunities for sustainable and eco-friendly production of biobased materials from renewable sources. This project aims to develop engineered enzymes and production technologies for conversion of microalgae fatty acids into various high added value hydroxy fatty acids (HFAs) via hydratase mediated biotransformation. HFAs are in high demand in the industry for various applications and they exhibit useful biological activities.
The key tasks in this project will be:
- Application of targeted and random protein engineering approaches to optimize fatty acid hydratases for diverse substrate promiscuity/regioselectivity as well as enhanced activity/stability;
- Screening activity of various fatty acid substrates with hydratase variants to determine substrate specificity and regioselectivity
- Preparative scale production, purification and chemical characterization of hydroxy fatty acid products.
Qualifications of the candidate
Required Education and Skills:
- Completed PhD in the field of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or relevant
- Practical experience in molecular biology techniques, especially those related to protein engineering
- Strong background in enzymology (protein expression and purification, enzyme characterization, assay design and analysis) and the application of enzymes in biocatalysis.
- Expertise in chemical analysis using techniques including NMR, GC-MS and HPLC
- Self-motivated, pro-active, team- and goal-oriented personality
- Full command of the English language

Shortlisting is used. Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
