Research area and project description
As part of a research project funded by the Velux foundation: “COAST_SEQUENCE – Exploring Danish marine biodiversity using environmental DNA”, we are seeking a highly-motivated postdoc. The project will use high-throughput sequencing of environmental DNA (eDNA) from seawater and sediment samples collected along the Danish coasts coupled with oceanographic and environmental data, in order to investigate which factors are important for the distribution of marine Biodiversity in Denmark. The project builds on a partnership with other universities, Danish Society for Nature Conservation (Danmarks Naturfredningsforening) and the five largest Danish aquariums. The postdoc will be involved in project management as well as fieldwork along the Danish coasts for obtaining eDNA samples, and particularly analyses of eDNA results. A component of the work will be development and improvement of bioinformatics pipelines to analyse eDNA data from next-generation sequencing.
Qualifications and Specific Competences
Applicants must have a PhD degree or equivalent, or have submitted their PhD thesis for assessment before the application deadline. We seek a candidate with strong expertise in bioinformatic and statistical analyses of next-generation sequencing data (preferably marine) as well as ecological data analyses, hereunder experience with R. Skills in DNA laboratory work, field work as well as an interest in marine biology and biodiversity is preferable. The candidate is also expected to have good collaborative skills and proven abilities to publish at a high international level as well as experience in project management. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the daily management of his/her research project in coordination with other members of the group, and will be actively involved in the training and co-supervision of other staff members and students.

Shortlisting is used. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
