Post-doctoral Fellow on Specificity of interaction between herbivores and host plants: study of olfatory receptors

Massuo Jorge Kato

São Paulo, Brazil

One Postdoctoral Scholar position is available
immediately in the Institute of Chemistry at the University of São Paulo. We
seek talented and highly motivated scientists with a keen interest in the study
of plant-insect interactions in tropical forests.
The
project aims to investigate the insect-plant interaction between Eois moths (Geometridae) and Piper species, with an emphasis on the
characterization of olfactory proteins (ORs, OBPs, CSPs, IRs, GRs) involved in
the attraction and recognition of host plants. It is expected that the
investigation of the transcriptome of the Eois
sp antennas will allow the selection of olfactory receptors that can be
functionally characterized through gene silencing by the RNA interference
technique of the olfactory co-receptor and / or of some specific receptor,
followed by behavioral and electrophysiological studies.

Post-doctoral fellowship is
available for an initial period of 12 months starting in April/2019, renewable
for additional 12 months according to the duration of the Thematic Project. The
stipend from FAPESP is R$ R$ 7.373,10/month (about US$ 1,800/month). For
application or further information, please contact Massuo J. Kato (
massuojorge@gmail.com; +55 11 3091-1886) not
later than 03/March/2019. Applicants should send the Resumé with a cover letter
describing his or her experience in the field.
