GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is one of the internationally leading institutions in the field of marine sciences. It is foundation of public law jointly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany (90 %) and the state of Schleswig-Holstein (10 %). Currently GEOMAR disposes over an annual budget of approx. 80 million Euro and has approx. 1000 employees.

The active research unit 'Ocean Ecosystem Biology' of Prof. Alexandra Z. Worden seeks a

Team Assistant

starting as soon as possible. You will be part of an international team. The group develops and implements methods and technologies for sea-going oceanography, including innovations in genomic, metagenomic and transcriptomic approaches that aim to understand ocean algae and their ecosystem roles. The team operates in English language.

Job Description

General office managementControlling of budgets and accountsProviding German language support and translating simple texts (German <> English)Support for staff members and guestsSupervision of all personnel affairsOrganization of (inter-) national business trips, administrative support for ship expeditions, and field workOrganization and administration of events and workshopsPurchasing of project equipment and business needsActualization of the homepage (training can be provided)

Qualification

Preferably completed professional training as office manager, multilingual administration  or similarPreferably 2 years of professional experience (in the field of science management or public administration preferred)good software skills; especially with MS Office (Excel, Word)Strong German and EnglishHighly communicative, loyal and with great organizational talentAbility to work independently and take initiativeEnthusiasm and interested in supporting diversity

The position is limited to two years. The aim is to extend the employment contract. The salary depends on qualification and could be up to the class E8 TVöD-Bund of the German tariff for public employees. This is a part-time position according to 50% of a full-time equivalent. The position cannot be split.
