Short description:
Alzheimer’s Disease research effort focused on developing apolipoprotein E (apoE) as a therapeutic target and biomarker. Excellent opportunity for motivated candidates to work on newly-funded mechanistic biomarker and drug-discovery efforts.

Detailed description:
A Postdoctoral Research position is available in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Illinois Chicago. The Postdoctoral Research Associate can be involved in several funded and contractual projects. For example, a recently funded project investigating the interaction between estrogen therapy and apolipoprotein E4 in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in a novel female mouse model of AD (EFAD) and a second project focused on validating a novel mechanistic biomarker for AD in human plasma. Additional pre-clinical projects in collaboration with industrial partners are ongoing.

Only candidates with the following minimum qualifications/experience will be considered:
1. Knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases.
2. Education/experience a variety of techniques:
a) In vitro cell culture, for screening compounds, primary cell co-cultures;
b) Biochemistry;
c) Cell biology;
d) Advanced imaging;
e) Pre-clinical study design.
3. Scholarly activity as evidenced by manuscripts published in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.
4. Experience with grant writing and submission process.
5. Competitive candidates will have strong research interests in line with our work, excel working in a fast-paced laboratory environment, and have skills to manage research technicians and undergraduate research assistants.

Exceptional candidates will be innovative, dedicated and team-oriented.
PhD; Preferably recent graduates (salary based on NIH scale for years post-doctorate).
