Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT)

Genova, Italy

Application are invited for a Researcher position (comparable with Senior Research Associate/Fellow position in the university career pathway) within the “Neuromodulation of Cortical and Subcortical Circuits” Research Line to study how basal ganglia circuits integrate motivational and emotional information, both in health and psychomotor disorders.

One of the aims is to dissect the behaviorally-relevant roles of serotonin at striatal circuits (Cavaccini et al., Neuron, 2018). To this purpose, the successful candidate will apply in-vivo large-scale neuronal imaging and neurophysiological techniques combined with the latest optogenetic (Alberio et al., Nature Methods, 2018) and chemogenetic approaches to deconstruct and manipulate neuronal circuits, together with behavioral paradigms.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related disciplines, and have an excellent track-record of publications in international scientific journals, together with strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Applicants are expected to have documented expertise in behavioral methods, in-vivo optogenetics and electrophysiological recordings in murine models, alongside with a good command of stereotaxic surgeries for targeted viral-vector injections. Experience with in-vivo Ca2+ imaging will be a plus.
