The MRC Toxicology Unit in the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Programme Leader Track at the grade of Senior Research Associate within the area of epigenetics. The successful candidate will lead a small research team and be free to pursue their own research agenda within the theme of gene-environment interactions following toxic exposure.
We are particularly interested in those with a strong research record in this area for example, research directed towards determining how the DNA or RNA epigenome changes following exposure to pharmaceuticals/environmental agents. Proposed future studies should be directed at obtaining mechanistic information about the mode of action and physiological consequence of these epigenetic changes.
The appointment will be made at Programme Leader Track/Senior Research Associate level and will provide you with the opportunity to develop a full range of skills necessary to progress your research programme. It is expected that within 5-6 years you will prove yourself fully able to be an internationally competitive group leader and equally merit promotion to Programme Leader/Principle Research Associate within the same time frame. Duties will include developing research objectives, projects and proposals for the delivery of your own research programme; leading a small team of researchers and PhD students; managing research budgets and resources; developing collaborations; identifying and securing funding; disseminating research findings in peer-reviewed literature and at international conferences.
The successful candidate will have made significant contributions to the subject area with important research papers in high quality journals; a PhD in a related discipline; relevant postdoctoral experience including leading others and outstanding potential for independent research. A background in toxicology is desirable but not essential.
The MRC Toxicology Unit is a leading international research institute within the School of Biological Sciences. The Unit delivers high impact mechanistic toxicology research, pursuing hypothesis-driven toxicological questions with a particular focus on the study of the causal links between exposure to endogenous and exogenous toxicants, molecular initiating events and adverse outcome pathways. The Unit’s overall aims are to carry out pioneering research which leads to improved health and to train and mentor the next generation of toxicologists.
The research environment provides state-of-the-art research facilities including microscopy, Cryo-EM, flow cytometry; proteomics; bioinformatics and imaging. In addition, excellent opportunities exist for collaborative interactions within a vibrant community at the University of Cambridge.
