Programme Leader Track – Neurobiology
Salary Range £50,134 – £61,942
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK
The Neurobiology Division of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology invites applications for a Programme Leader Track. We seek someone with a focus on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms that determine the structure and (dys)function of synapses and neural circuits, in health and/or disease (especially neurodegeneration). An emphasis on the development and application of molecular neurobiological approaches is essential, and the application of cutting-edge light and/or electron microscopic imaging is encouraged. The primary selection criteria are scientific excellence and potential for synergy by complementing our existing research programmes, both within the Division (encompassing neuronal molecular cell biology, neural circuits and simple behaviours, and the molecular/cell biological basis of neurodegeneration) and across the wider LMB. You should hold a PhD and/or MD and have an excellent publication record, be internationally recognised for your work and have outstanding potential for independent research.
The position comes with substantial core funding (staff and consumables) sufficient to establish your research group, and applications for additional external grant support are encouraged. The LMB has an exceptional record of ground-breaking research, and in 2013 moved into a new building with outstanding core facilities, including those for light and electron microscopy and mass spectrometry, as well as electronic and instrumentation workshops. Administrative duties are minimal and no teaching is required. Interactions across the four Divisions of the LMB are encouraged. The University of Cambridge and affiliated institutions form a vibrant Neuroscience community (http://www.neuroscience.cam.ac.uk/).
The appointment will be made at Programme Leader Track level, and candidates should have a strong international track record of relevant independent research and a proven ability to lead a research team, pursuing original approaches to long-term research goals. Salaries are competitive (Programme Leader Track £50,134 to £61,942 per annum).

Working for UKRI MRC provides a whole host of benefits including a defined benefit pension scheme, excellent holiday entitlement (40 ½ days including bank holidays and privilege days) and Benenden Healthcare membership. You will also have access to employee shopping/travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare vouchers.
Applications should include a covering letter and full CV, an outline of current research interests (1 page) and a proposal for future research (up to 2 pages), along with the names and addresses of three professional referees who have agreed to be contacted prior to interview.
