Division Head for “Translational Molecular Imaging”

Our mission is to unravel the causes and mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression and, based on innovative research, develop novel strategies for the diagnosis, early detection, prevention and treatment of cancer. Located on the biomedical campus in Heidelberg, the DKFZ is embedded in a highly attractive scientific environment offering a broad spectrum of opportunities for collaborations. Moreover, we provide excellent research conditions, an international and collegial research environment and access to state-of-the-art core facilities. To efficiently translate novel findings from basic science into the clinic, the DKFZ, in partnership with leading university medical centers, has established the National Center for Tumor Diseases and the German Cancer Consortium.

The DKFZ, with funding from the Dieter Morszeck Foundation, is currently seeking an outstanding scientist in the field of medical physics to establish a new division on “Translational Molecular Imaging” at the DFKZ to further enhance preclinical imaging platforms and technologies. The research should focus on the design of multimodal biosensors and reporters for MRI purposes and their testing in a preclinical setting on different animal models. Specific focus should be on the development of novel concepts regarding hyperpolarization applications in biomedical contexts. The candidate is expected to establish an integrative imaging concept at the interface of physics, medicine and biochemistry to advance the translation of novel imaging approaches from preclinical model experiments to clinical application.

Your profile:
Eligible applicants hold a University and doctoral degree in natural sciences, mathematics or medicine with special focus on medical physics. The candidate should have international research experience and an excellent scientific track record in the development of non-invasive imaging technology and protocols especially for Magnet Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Applicants must further have international research experience and an outstanding scientific track record in this field, especially in MR and NMR-based imaging methods. The ideal candidate is expected to pursue highly innovative imaging research projects at the frontiers of cancer research and should be able to successfully raise extramural funding. They should furthermore have experience in leadership with accountability for staff and budgets.
