Salary: Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Galaxy Evolution at infrared and submm wavelengths. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 36 months.
This project will be to investigate the nature and triggering mechanisms of star formation in luminous infrared galaxies as a function of redshift, probe the physical conditions of the ISM and its impact on star formation and use new models of Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) to re-assess their suitability as star formation indicators and probes of the ISM in galaxies near and far.
The successful candidate will analyse data from ALMA, NOEMA and ESO facilities. In addition, (s)/he will be expected to take the lead in designing follow up programmes with ground-based and space facilities, develop new data reduction techniques for analysis and interpretation of infrared/submm photometric and spectroscopic data. The postholder will be expected to participate in seminars, discussion sessions and workshops and attend collaborative meetings in the UK and abroad.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completion of a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a related field and ideally with a background in infrared and submm/mm reduction and analysis techniques. Candidates are expected to demonstrate how they can work in a team towards a specified goal, and have a publication record commensurate with their experience.
The postholder will have the opportunity to teach and supervise PhD students.
