The Computational Biochemistry Group, which is headed by Prof. Birgit Strodel, is part of the ICS-6 and focuses on the development and application of computational methods for studying protein aggregation. The research topic of the project deals with the further development of a hybrid all-atom/coarse-grained simulation approach for studying Alzheimer´s amyloid-ß peptide in complex biological environments. This will allow unexpected new insight into the aggregation of amyloid-ß under near-native conditions. Tasks:Further development of a hybrid all-atom/coarse-grained model for amyloid peptides. Implementation of the resulting model into Gromacs. Application of the resulting model to simulate amyloid aggregation in complex environments. Cooperation with experimentalists to validate and address resulting findings.
Your Profile:A strong PhD degree in computational/theoretical biochemistry/biophysics or related Expert knowledge in the simulation of proteins at the atomistic and/or coarse-grained level using GROMACS or similar software Experience in method development, in particular in force field development Strong programming and scriptng skills (e.g., Python, C/C++, bash) Profound spoken and written English skills Being creative, ambitious, highly motivated Ability to work independently
