LifeArc is an independent life science medical research charity committed to drastically improving positive patient outcomes everywhere. As a champion for human health, LifeArc partners with academic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and charity organisations to move promising medical research forward into viable and accessible patient treatments. LifeArc’s Centre for Therapeutic Discovery (CTD) has expertise in both small molecule and therapeutic antibody drug discovery and works to develop exciting new drugs for a broad range of unmet medical needs.

The Opportunity Assessment Group (OAG) provides a central resource for LifeArc, researching and analysing the potential of new and existing biomedical opportunities. The team performs detailed scientific assessments as well as analysis of competition and intellectual property. A core focus of the team is the critical evaluation of drug discovery projects for CTD and OAG performs an essential role in helping to shape CTD’s drug discovery pipeline. OAG also provides diligence support for LifeArc’s Seed and Philanthropic Fund to inform investment decisions.

We are looking for someone educated to PhD level from a strong biological research background, with evidence of academic excellence. Ideally, you will have an academic background in immunology. You will welcome an intellectual challenge and will be able to quickly understand and critique scientific information. An ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment across a broad range of biomedical fields is essential. A position in OAG provides a stimulating job that offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and motivated individual to broaden their scientific and commercial horizons.

Your role will involve performing scientific, technical, commercial and IP diligence. You will be expected to interact credibly with leading experts, scientists and clinicians within academia and the pharmaceutical industry. You will be able to clearly present the strengths and weaknesses of biomedical opportunities and will have excellent communication and report writing skills. This is a training position and you will be expected to learn quickly to understand LifeArc’s processes for assessing competitive intelligence and the intellectual property landscape. Experience in biotech, pharma or technology transfer is not necessary but you should be able to demonstrate an interest in and an appreciation of the factors that can influence success in drug discovery.

The position will involve occasional travel within the UK and abroad.

Your salary will be determined by qualifications and experience. In addition, LifeArc offers a defined contribution pension scheme, private health insurance, a flexible benefits scheme and 31 days paid holiday per year.

LifeArc is committed to the principles and practices of equal opportunities in employment and encouraging the establishment of a diverse workforce. This includes creating a culture that fully reflects its commitment to equal opportunities for all.

It is LifeArc’s policy to employ individuals on the basis of their suitability for the work to be performed and their potential for development, regardless of age, sex, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, disability, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief.
