Two Postdoctoral Fellowships – Unique scientific opportunity to help drive drug discovery in Brazil for global neglected diseases
Two postdoctoral positions are available at the Center for Research and Innovation in Biodiversity and Drug Discovery (CIBFar – http://cibfar.ifsc.usp.br), one of the “Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers” (CEPIDs) supported by FAPESP (The São Paulo Research Foundation), to join a multidisciplinary project in partnership with the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi – http://www.dndi.org), focused on the discovery and optimization of new chemical entities for the treatment of Leishmaniasis and Chagas disease. The registration period ends on 15th March, 2019.
Position A: one researcher will join the team of investigators in Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Design at the University of Sao Paulo (USP/IFSC) and will be responsible for the design and conduction of (1) primary parasitology assays (in vitro phenotypic screening cascade versus Trypanosoma and Leishmania), and (2) ADME assays (e.g. lipophilicity, permeability, microsomal stability, and others). The candidate must have experience in conducting in vitro assays with kinetoplastids and/or in vitro / in vivo pharmacokinetics.
Position B: one researcher will join the team of investigators in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and will be responsible for the (1) design of target molecules and synthetic routes to those targets, working on series provided by DNDi, and (2) then carry out the synthesis in the laboratory. The candidate must have training in synthetic organic chemistry. Experience in Medicinal Chemistry is an advantage.
These activities comprise a key portion of a multidisciplinary consortium, and the selected candidates will be expected to play a leading role in the drug discovery project and liaise closely with other drug discovery scientists (e.g. medicinal chemistry, parasitology, DMPK, safety, formulation), contributing to the overall project team. These roles offer opportunities to work with leading drug discovery scientists in academia and industry.
Candidates must have obtained their PhD degree within the last 7 (seven) years and show fluency in English and willingness to work within interdisciplinary teams.
Applications can be submitted only by e-mail. Those interested should send curriculum vitae and letter of interest, accompanied by two (2) letters of recommendation. The vacancies are open to Brazilians and foreigners.
For Position A, please send an email with the required documentation to Professor Adriano D. Andricopulo (email@example.com), CIBFar Principal Investigator, and Dr. Jadel M. Kratz, DNDi Discovery Manager (firstname.lastname@example.org).
For Position B, please send an email with the required documentation to Professor Luiz C. Dias (email@example.com), CIBFar Principal Investigator, and Dr. Jadel M. Kratz, DNDi Discovery Manager (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Postdoctoral FAPESP Fellowship grant a monthly stipend of R$ 7.373,10 (Brazilian Real, plus research contingence funds, equivalent to 15% of the annual stipend, which is intended for use in activities developed in accordance to the research project, and during its valid period. Candidates who need to move to São Carlos/SP or Campinas/SP – Brazil, with displacement distance above 350 km (three hundred and fifty kilometers), may request the benefit of aid installation, consisting of an additional monthly fee and transport costs. This benefit must be approved by FAPESP.
