Postdoctoral Research Associate
The Moldoveanu laboratory at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital seeks a highly motivated and accomplished PhD-level structural biologist who loves science and wants to pursue a fully supported postdoctoral fellowship. In addition to proficiency in macromolecular crystallography or cryo-EM, membrane protein expertise is a plus. You can efficiently design, clone and express proteins, optimize samples for high-resolution characterization and determine and refine structures. Our research centers on the structural and chemical biology of programmed cell death to mechanistically dissect central hubs that regulate these pathways.
We use high-resolution structural biology, including crystallography and NMR spectroscopy, and are actively expanding our expertise and interest in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). We have excellent access to shared resources in our department, including home and synchrotron X-ray beams; the NMR Center, which has 8 Bruker magnets (three 600MHz, two 700MHz, one 800MHz, one 850MHz, and the world’s first 1.1GHz to be delivered in 2019); and the Cryo-EM and Tomography Center, which has three microscopes (one Arctica and one Krios, both with K3 Gatan cameras and one 120 KeV microsope for negative staining).
As a good communicator in oral and written English, you have written and first-authored primary articles in top macromolecular structural biology journals and can prepare your manuscript drafts largely independently. You are highly interactive and are willing to teach junior scientists. If needed, you are willing to learn and apply complementary high-resolution techniques to our biological questions. This position has the potential for upgrade to a permanent, full-time position, depending on qualifications, productivity and fit.
