Professorship (W3) for Comparative Genomics

Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University

Frankfurt am Main, Germany

As part of the programme for promoting cutting-edge research initiatives and developing scientific-economic excellence in the federal state of Hesse (LOEWE), the newly established LOEWE Centre for Translational Biodiversity Genomics (LOEWE-TBG, invites applications for a joint appointment as professor at the Goethe University Frankfurt, Faculty of Biological Sciences together with the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN).

LOEWE-TBG is a joint venture of the SGN, Goethe University Frankfurt, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen and Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology IME. LOEWE-TBG aims to combine genome research of a taxonomically broad set of organisms with the development of application-oriented services and products. The focus lies on the expansion of biodiversity research to the genomic basis of biological diversity to make the newly generated resources accessible for societal demand-driven applied research.

Goethe University together with SGN offers the following position as public employee:

Professorship (W3) for Comparative Genomics

The candidate should have a broad taxonomic interest and be familiar with bioinformatics methods in the field of comparative genome analysis. The professorship should strengthen the research on molecular and organismic biodiversity in Frankfurt. Possible research topics include speciation and gene flow, genome structure, adaptation, molecular origin of functional diversity, developmental biology and/or genomics of biotic interactions. Experience in the assembly and annotation of eukaryotic genomes is required. Apart from the research activity, the candidate is expected to develop and manage the LOEWE-TBG Senckenberg Biodiversity Genome Collection. Experience with collection management is therefore desirable.

For the professorship, we expect a commitment to translational activities by the candidate.
