The Cluster of Excellence ‘RESIST’ (Resolving Infection Susceptibility) and the Institute of Molecular Bacteriology at the Hannover Medical School/TWINCORE (Director Prof. Dr. med. S. Häußler) seek to recruit an
Associate Professor in Systems Biology of Microbial Communities (salary scale W2)
The position will be available from 1/7/2019. The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract until 31/12/2025, with the possibility of extension and promotion to a tenured position following a successful external evaluation. We invite applications from both science and medical graduates. The thematic research focus of the new professorship will be on systems biology of microbial infections, particularly on biofilm-forming pathogens. The applicant should be proficient in using of a broad spectrum of experimental systems and/or methods and tools for Data Analytics and Data Mining processes including advanced Machine Learning techniques for pattern recognition.
The applicant shall complement the research programme of the Institute of Molecular Bacteriology at TWINCORE and he/she shall contribute to the research program of the RESIST cluster of excellence. The candidate should participate in one or several of the collaborative research centres (CRC; “Sonderforschungsbereiche”), directed by Hannover Medical School (MHH) and the research programmes of the German Centre of Infection Research pursued at MHH.
Applicants are expected to have a very good publication record, a successful track record in the acquisition of competitive research grants. Expertise in gender-sensitive research is desirable. The successful applicant is expected to have experience in teaching at the undergraduate or postgraduate level and should to become involved in the undergraduate course in medicine „HannibaL“ (in modules of medical microbiology, virology, hospital hygiene) as well as the interdisciplinary bachelor, master, MD/PhD and Physician Scientist Programs at MHH.
Applicants should also have proven leadership qualities and be known for their team-oriented management style and communication skills.
