The position is located at a research group established to investigate the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying human aging and age- related neurodegeneration, headed by Dr Evandro Fei Fang. The research group is The Department of Clinical Molecular Biology is located at Akershus University Hospital where it is a part of the Division of Medicine and Laboratory Sciences, which is the largest division at the Akershus University Hospital Campus, with approximately 40 university employees. The Department has a large and well-equipped molecular biology laboratory that enables advanced translational research. Research themes include: Genome Stability, Cancer Genomics and Cancer Biology, Neurological diseases

The group’s activities include investigating the molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial autophagy (mitophagy) and its roles in neurodegeneration, especially Alzheimer’s disease, and aging. Several aging-related projects are being developed in the Fang laboratory, including 1) molecular mechanisms of mitophagy; 2) mitochondrial dysfunction and compromised mitophagy in neurodegeneration; and 3) NAD and aging. The laboratory has long-standing interests to address the molecular mechanisms of these questions using cross-species laboratory models, including human iPCSs, C. elegans, mice, and human samples.

Job descriptions:
You will be involved in developing one project on Alzheimer’s disease majorly using human iPSCs. Candidates with experiences on iPSC culture and the differentiation of iPSC to neurons/astrocytes/microglia are mandatory. Further experiences on organoid culture and/or 3D cell culture are preferable. Other opportunities include writing and collaborating on papers for high-profile journal publications and attending and presenting at national/international conferences. This exciting postdoc position is initially for a two-year contract, and may be extended based on the availability of additional funding.

Qualification requirements:
Candidates with experiences on iPSC culture and the differentiation of iPSC to neurons/astrocytes/microglia are mandatory.
Further experiences on organoid culture and/or 3D cell culture are preferable.
Candidates with additional experiences on autophagy and/or Alzheimer’s disease are also with priority, but not necessary.
Candidates with experience on working with the roundworm C. elegans are also recommended to apply.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. (or similar doctoral degree(s)) at the time of starting the postdoc contract.
The candidate must be fluent in written and spoken English.
