The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Our laboratory is focused on developing and utilizing patient derived xenografts to identify improved therapies and personalize therapies for advanced cancer patients. **Ideal candidate will have the desire and abilities to handle small animals and undertake all techniques related to rodent. Prior Laboratory Experience. Understanding of personalized cancer therapies and the how the combination of in depth molecular analysis and broad PDX testing fits in to the translation aspect of this research. ** Key Functions 1. Daily animal handling including hold animal, minor survival surgery, blood draws, injection at various sites, tumor measurement and tracking, oral gavage. Must feel comfortable committing majority of time to animal facility. 2. To plan, monitor and independently perform routine laboratory procedures. - Prepare specimens and perform analytical examinations of body fluids, such as blood, tissue and secretions. - Perform specialized specimen processing including, but not limited to, slide preparation and staining and cell separation and analysis. - Label time-sensitive specimens for pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies for highly specialized clinical trials research. - Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to maintain data accuracy, specimen and instrument quality control, and maintain processing standards. - Perform laboratory tests for the treatment and diagnoses of diseases specific to the department's phase I protocols. - Learn to operate laboratory equipment and apparatus and perform routine operator maintenance. - Read the literature and confer with superiors regarding new procedures and modify them according to the needs of the project. - Maintain assertiveness and flexibility in approaching new techniques and responsibilities, utilizing good work habits and time management. - Maintain alertness and careful attention to avoid injury to self and others due to chemicals and hazardous material in the laboratory. 3. To record and evaluate data in accordance with methods requested and confer with superiors regarding results obtained. - Maintain an up-to-date, organized, and legible laboratory journal that records all experiments and tests in detail. - Collect and organize data for project reports. Experience Required: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
