Postdoctoral scientist - cellbiology/biochemistry

Universiteit Twente

Enschede, Netherlands

The Nanobiophysics Group at the University of Twente, the Netherlands seeks a cell biologist/biochemist to join their research team. The lab aims at revealing the mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease related protein aggregation using cutting edge technologies.

Job requirements
Recent reports suggest a prion like transmission of the amyloid fold in neurodegenerative protein aggregation diseases. You will investigate the transport of amyloid fibrils derived from food across biological barriers with the idea that the presensence of such protein fibrils in the brain may lead to cross-seeding of the amyloid fold in disease related proteins. The biological barriers you will study include mucosal barriers and the blood-brain-barrier. You will implement a reconstituted mucin hydrogel and blood-brain barrier on microfluidic chip model to quantitatively study the transport of fluorescently labelled protein aggregates through these biological layers. An important deliverable will be the integration of results into a predictive risk assessment tool for amyloid exposure.

We seek outstanding candidates with PhD training in a relevant subject and a background in cell biology or biochemistry and an excellent publication record. Affinity with quantitative data analysis is required. Experience with microfluidic systems and microscopy methods is useful. You are able to engage with interdisciplinary studies and are driven by curiosity. You are able to work independently, have excellent analysis skills and an analytical mind-set, as well as excellent communication skills, both spoken and written. English language proficiency is a must.

You will be working as a member of a research team, therefore it is requested that you provide explicit proof of your collaborative performance in previous research work, by providing letters of recommendation from previous supervisors.
