Postdoctoral Fellow/Ophthalmology – 190000004W
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position in the laboratory of Dr. Rajashekhar Gangaraju, PhD, in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. The highly motivated postdoctoral fellow will be investigating the role of stem cells in visual disorders. The work will include isolation and study of adipose stem cells, endothelial and neuronal cells and genetic manipulation of such. Also, an array of neurodegeneration model organisms will be analyzed by ex vivo and in vivo imaging of the neurovasculature. The Department of Ophthalmology and extended research teams provide a highly dynamic and collaborative environment fostering scientific breakthroughs. This position is for a one-year appointment, but has the potential to be renewed.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with research training in the fields of physiology, pharmacology, and/or cellular and molecular biology. We are expecting high motivation and ability to work independently, as well as part of a research team. The candidate must have acquired a solid publication record and have excellent laboratory skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required. The candidate will play a major role in the preparation of manuscripts and grants that arise from this work.
Candidates should have experience with the techniques of protein biochemistry, cell culture, microscopy, and animal experiments. Candidates with experience in vision science are highly preferred.
