Postdoctoral Fellow/Immunology & Virology
A postdoctoral fellow position is available at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, College of Nursing. Our laboratory investigates a) host and pathogen factors mediating protective and pathogenic immunity to viral lung infection, and b) the role of interferons and inflammatory monocyte/ macrophages in host response to virus infections during aging. These research projects are focused on understanding the pathogenesis, and towards the development of novel therapeutics for emerging virus infections such as SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and other viral lung infections. The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr. Rudra Channappanavar.
The ideal candidate will have experience with flow cytometry and other cellular immunology assays, virology/molecular biology techniques (Cloning, qRT-PCR, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, maintaining and transfecting mammalian cell lines, virus production/titration) and animal models of infection. Additional qualifications include research experience in a BSL-3/ABSL3 setting. Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills and must be able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Highly motivated candidate possessing a Ph.D. (with ≤ 3 years of postdoc experience) and having a strong research background in immunology, virology, and molecular biology.
